There is an ancient road....

The story of the LoDico ancestry begins in Malpasso and is tied to one of the most ancient roads in Sicily..

By the end of the 17th century there was still one road that went from the coastal town of Catania, inland through the Madonie mountains to the north coastal town of Palermo. This roadway was one of the very first roads in Sicily and was used by the first of the island's inhabitants: the Sicans, Sicels, and Elymians.

In its earliest times the towns of Centuripe and Agyrium brought an exchange of goods arriving by sea with ceramics and obsidian brought out from inland. This road was later improved by the Romans and it passed through Blufi in a region called Malpasso [ bad pass ]. This was a dangerous stretch of road known for its steep ravines and high bluffs where criminals and others would attack and rob the travelers.

The priests, pilgrims, and merchants complained to the Sicilian nobility and asked for protection. The Marchese Pottino who owned many large estates of land and farms around Rusuttano and Blufi, including the ancestral Castello Irosa, entered into an agreement with three Sicilian campiere families: the LaTonas, the di Geracis, and the LoDicos.

In return for protecting the travelers on the road, the LoDico family was given the land known as Malpasso.

La storia dell'ascendenza di LoDico comincia in Malpasso ed è legata ad una delle strade più antiche in Sicilia.

Per la fine dello XVIIesimo secolo ci era ancora una strada che è andato dalla città costiera di Catania, interno attraverso le montagne di Madonie alla città costiera del nord di Palermo. Questa carreggiata era una di primissime strade in Sicilia ed è stata usata dal prime del island' abitanti di s: il Sicans, il Sicels e il Elymians.

Nei relativi periodi più in anticipo le città di Centuripe e di Agyrium hanno portato uno scambio di merci che arrivano dal mare con ceramica e dall'ossidiana messa in evidenza dal interno. Questa strada più successivamente è stata migliorata dai Romani ed ha attraversato Blufi in una regione denominata Malpasso [passaggio difettoso]. Ciò era una stirata pericolosa della strada conosciuta per i relativi burroni ripidi ed alti bluff dove i criminali ed altri avrebbero attacato e rubato i viaggiatori.

I sacerdoti, i pellegrini ed i commercianti hanno sporto querela alla nobiltà siciliana ed hanno chiesto la protezione. Il Marchese Pottino che ha posseduto molti latifondi di terra e delle aziende agricole intorno a Rusuttano e a Blufi, compreso il Castello ancestrale Irosa, inserito in un accordo con tre famiglie siciliane del campiere: il LaTonas, i Di Geracis e il LoDicos.

In cambio della protezione dei viaggiatori sulla strada, la famiglia di LoDico è stata data la terra conosciuta come Malpasso.
